Amarnath Yatra Cloudburst - Yatra Resumes After 2 Days Halt

Jul 11: After the devastating cloudburst that lashed across the annual pilgrimage of Amarnath, the yatra has now resumed. Thousands of pilgrims have been flocking to the holy cave of Baba Barfani in Jammu ever since it opened on 30th June 2022. It was on the 8th of July that the horrific natural phenomenon swept through the valley as a result of a sudden and unpredictable cloud burst.

According to the chief medical officer in Ganderbal, Jammu, and Kashmir, there have been 15 deaths and 50 casualties as a result of the cloudburst while over 40 people remain missing. On the day of the pilgrimage, 15,000 Yatris were reported to be there.

Amarnath Yatra Halted

Seeing the critical weather situation in Amarnath, the pilgrimage was halted for 2 days. This yatra was temporarily halted due to the area being badly affected and inundated. Over 8 teams are involved in the rescue operation. Additionally, a team of 2 medical teams has also been sent to help out the situation. The rescue team is undertaken by the Indo-Tibetan border police and the Indian Army which also includes 2 teams of search and rescue dogs.

Amarnath Yatra Resumes

After a 2 days halt, the Amarnath Yatra has now resumed as of 11th July 2022. Thousands of pilgrims that were left waiting are now making their way to the holy cave shrine and completing their pilgrimage. About 2,000 to 3,000 pilgrims were given permission to move on to the holy cave, towards Chandanwari from the Amarnath base camp, according to reliable official sources.

A fresh batch of pilgrims has now been given permission to make their move to the holy cave through the Nunwan base camp in Pahalgam. The yatra has now resumed from the Yatri Niwas base camp in Jammu city on Monday morning at 4:30 am for over 3,000 pilgrims. Along with this over 1,000 pilgrims left for Baltal base camp at 3:30 am, according to officials.

Search and rescue operations continue as the pilgrims resume their yatra, under safe circumstances.
