Indian Railways to Connect Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri via 327 Km Line
Rejoice all Char Dham Yatris and devotees! The Indian railways are actively working towards a major project that is aimed at making the temples of Char Dham i.e. Kedarnath, Badrinath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri more accessible to the Yatris. The sole purpose is to offer hassle-free train journeys to Char Dham. This information was recently shared on the social media platform Twitter by railways minister Piyush Goyal under the honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The railway line will be laid out via Dehradun and Karnaprayag after connecting all 4 temples themselves. Minister Piyush Goyal also mentioned that the railway line will be passing through Pauri, Tehri Garhwal, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, and Uttarkashi. This will also massively cut down on the travel expense for Char Dham. The foundation stone for the final location survey for Single Broad Gauge Line Rail Connectivity had been laid in 2017 by former Railway Minister Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu.
As per the Railway Ministry, the track will be making its way through the Himalayas’ rugged mountainous terrain; Indian Railways has to meet the challenges of rail line construction by integrating the unique challenges of the terrain as well as adverse geology along with the limits of capacity, load, speed, and safety. Besides, its unique spiritual significance, the four Dhams have varied and distinctive elevation levels.
Key Highlights
- Railways will be building 4 interconnected rail lines to connect the Char Dham temples of Gangotri, Yamunotri, Badrinath, and Kedarnath.
- This railway line will pass through Dehradun and Karnaprayag. The project is expected to cost around Rs 43,292 crore.
- In addition to challenging geographical location, there will be limitations of capacity, load, speed, and safety.
These four Dhams are situated at high altitudes above sea level and have always held a religious and spiritual significance in the lives of devout Hindus from all over the world ever since the beginning of time. Along with this, they all have different heights. In such a situation, the railways will have to work hard to prepare the right infrastructure for the trains to function properly and guarantee safety for the pilgrims. This project is important when speaking about religion in India, while on the other hand, it will be an example in terms of the connectivity of remote areas. All in all, it’s a win-win situation for people looking to Travel to Char Dham on a budget and even for the locals residing in nearby or even remote places.
