Bestowed with splendid natural beauty, Pachmarhi is a small hamlet in the state of Madhya Pradesh. It is basically an Army Cantonment Area which is situated almost at the center of the state. Nestled in a beautiful valley in the midst of the enchanting hills of the Satpura Range, the town is a hill station popular for its uncharted and unspoiled natural beauty. There exist five caves that are believed to have been used by the Pandavas during their exile. The caves are called Pachmarhi, which means five caves. The British took over the lands in 1857 and it is they who should be credited for the present popularity of the town. Captain James Forsyth, who was a high-ranking officer of the Bengal Lance, is said to be the founder of the town. He was an adventurer and a conversationalist, known for the work that he did in the central province of India. During the British Raj, the city served as a summer resort. They hugely colonized the regions and today the remnants of their colonial past narrate their history. Although not many of them remain today everything that is available gives the city a unique feel which makes the city simply inviting.

Note that the forest-covered area of the region has been declared as the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. It earned the status in May 2009. Nature flourishes here to the fullest. For an enthusiast of nature and wildlife, the place is simply a must-visit. The Satpura National Park which is a locality of the town is one of the most well-protected national parks in the country. The national park is also a popular tourist destination that is famous for Jungle Safari, nature walks, and other jungle-based activities. Apart from that the Pandav Caves, Big Falls, Jata Shankar Cave, Fairy Pool, etc. are the prime tourist haunts. Lately, the town has also emerged as a popular destination for parasailing and other outdoor actions.
